The Way He Made It by Keith Peck
Have you ever trod a lonely trail
So many miles from home
Have you ever walked among the hills
In a land that was unknown
Have you ever sat by a fire at night
That only god could see
If not, you haven't lived, my friend
You can take these words from me.
Have you ever watched the northern lights
When on the trail alone
Or watched a lonely eagle soar
When a thousand miles from home
Have you ever heard a timber wolf
Howling out his woes
Or hardened to a lonely loon
As he calls out from his home
If you haven't stopped to hear these calls
That mean so much to me
Then you haven't really lived, my friend
And have much more to see
Have you ever watched a big ram sleep
As he lies high on a hill
Or watched a grizzly with her cubs
When everything was still
Have you heard a bull elk bugle
On a bright September day
If you haven't then beware, my friend
How fast time slips away.
Perhaps, you're from the city
And never gave much thought
Of living without man made sounds
Or just being where they're not
And so I'd like to tell you
As I think you ought to know
If you haven't trod a lonely trail
Then I think you ought to go.
There's something about the back woods
That's real hard to explain
You can travel there by a dog team
Or with a big pack train
But to feel the way He made it
Mother nature raw and wild
you have to tread the lonely trails
And walk the lonely miles
